X-Box Kinect FAIL!!!!

My husband is paralyzed and wheelchair bound but a very active guy. My brother-in-law got an xbox kinect for Christmas. My husband and I were over there and we wanted to try it out. I played one game and thought that it was really fun. So my husband goes up and the game DOES NOT RECOGNISE HIM! As first we thought that he was just too short so we callibrated the game, no big deal. But the same thing happened, it doesn't recognise him. So we had our little niece, who is shorter than him, stand in front and the game recognized her and callibrated itself accordingly. Then she moved out of the way and my husband rolled up and the same thing happened. Guess we won't buy that system EVER!!! Glad we figured that one out BEFORE we purchased the whole system and it didn't work. BIG FAIL XBOX KINECT!!!!

Thankful Thursday (I know its Friday)

I am thankful for a few things this week....
1. My health, it may not be what I want it to be right now but I am alive, breathing, and can get healthier
2. Random acts of kindness, I lost me job a month ago, Sunday morning someone left a bag of food on my doorstep, I don't know who it was, but I am so thankful.

Cholesterol......

So I always thought that high cholesterol was for old people to worry about. I am going to be 31 next week and never thought that my health was in jeopardy at all. I had my usual yearly physical and female exam on Tuesday, (yeah I know you are all extremely jealous) and my cholesterol levels are double what they should be!!! Yes I said double!! I was pretty shocked. My Doctor immediately put me on lipitor and said I should loose about 15-20lbs in the next couple months if I can. He also said to get a low cholesterol diet. So I spent last night looking up low cholesterol food. Again I don't think I am unhealthy at all but I don't want to end up having a heart attack or heart problems before I turn 40. Now I am even more motivated to get in shape and have a healthier lifestyle. I will post my low cholesterol meals on here to show how things are going.
Todays breakfast: 2 egg whites, whole wheat toast and margarine (not butter)

Job Hunting

As some of you know I am job hunting and that is always a fun and emjoyable experience.(Not really but we can pretend right?) I am finding many jobs that are available but the pay is horrible. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science with an empahsis in Sociology. I spent YEARS going to school to get that dumb piece of paper and NOBODY CARES!!!! Which is the worse thing ever!! Some employers have started off saying that they have VERY competative wages and then offer me $10 an hour. REALLY??? $10 an hour for someone with a Bachelors Degree is competative? Compared to what?? Its so frustrating because obviously I need to find a job but I can't afford to work for $10 an hour. Yes it is better than nothing but I make more on umemployment than I would taking a $10 an hour job so its hard to justify it. I actually had a second interview with a company yesterday and I am REALLY HOPING that they cal me back today. That's another thing, I wish that companies would call you back, even if the answer is no, we will not hire you. Then I don't have to worry about it anymore. Okay ranting is over, thanks for listening!!

Happy New Year

Another year over, thank goodness!!!! I am very happy that 2011 is gone and done with! Now with a new year comes new experiences and challenges and resolutions. I know that EVERYONE sets a goal to loose weight and then usually everyone doesn't follow thru with it. Last year at this time I was ending a weight loss challenge. Sunnie and I challenged each other to loose 30 lbs by our 30th birthdays. Mine birthday is this month and last year at this time I was ending a weight loss challenge where I lost 26 lbs in 5 months. I felt wonderful and not to mention I looked prettier good too!!! unfortunately, just like everything else it didn't stay off very long. I have decided that I am going to get healthier. I am not going to set a ridiculous goal that I won't follow or that I will give up in a week or two. I want to get healthier and with that comes a few challenges. But challenges that I am ready for. I will definately follow thru because I want this I want to be motivated to be healthier.
1. I will work out 3 times a week for 20 minutes, This is a goal that I will follow because its not everyday.
2. I will cook dinner at my house atleast 5 days a week, Now this one might sound kindof funny but because my husband and I work so much its so easy to grab food on the way home this will help us not do that
3. I am starting a gratitude page, I will keep a gratitude page of things I am greatful for, this will keep me motivated and I will share these gratitudes with each of you.
4. I will share my fun cooking recipes with each of you, so you can see what I am making at home
5. I will also share my workouts with you, whatever they may be, I do not have a gym pass, nor do I want one, but will let you know how I worked out during the week
6. I will also chart my progress every week and let you know where I stand
HERE'S TO A HEALTHY AND HAPPY 2012!!!!!

Holiday Hussle and Bustle

I don't know about anyone else but I am kindof glad that the Holiday CRAZINESS is slowing coming to an end. It is sad to me that so many people turn into grouches this time of year and are so rude to everyone that they come in contact with. While in a store last week, I had someone turn a corner and run right into the back of my foot with a shopping cart. He was going so fast that it actually cut the back of my foot. I turned around and the guy said "Get out of my way!! I can't believe you are in my way!!" Excuse me?? You ran into me, not the other way around, I was so not happy. Then, of course, I saw him again a few minutes later and he practically grabbed something out of my hand and said "I saw that first." SERIOUSLY?? Where is the Christmas happiness. I wish that we could all dispense from the commercialism of Christmas and remember the Reason for the Season, and that is Jesus Christ and the miracle of HIS birth for us all. May we rememeber that CHRISTmas starts with Christ and that HE is the reason for our fun season. Merry CHRISTmas to all!!

"An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo", E-Book review

I love children's books. I have avery large collection of childrens books and I seem to add to it more and more. Thats why I was more than happy to review "An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo", written by Jeannette Ramirez, Illustrated by The AIC College of Design. This book is so adorable. Every letter has an animal attached to it and the book is in perfect limerick writing. The drawings are amazing, the artist did a fantastic job.
I read this book to a group of two and three year olds at my child care center and they loved it!! Along with the book came a coloring book that followed all the pages and the animals so you can choose which animal is your favorite and then color the page that goes along with it. The kids had a fun time hearing about the different animals and the silly things that they do at the Zoo. Their favorite one was the "G" Gorilla
"A Gorilla is looking at me
And if I touch my nose, so does he.
When I stick out my tongue
He does too, for among
Other things, he's as smart as can be."
The picture of the Gorilla is him picking his nose!!!

After we were done reading the book, the kids all choose which animal they wanted to color from the book and then we made a little zoo on the bulletin board of all their pictures.
I would reccommend this book to EVERYONE! The pictures alone are worth it.
Now that Kindles, Nooks, and Ipad tablets are in color you can get the book and see the beautiful pictures for yourself.
You Check out their Sales Page Here

"Slippery Willie's Stupid Ugly Shoes," E-Book Review

I love children's books and finding new children's books that I have not heard of before so when I was given the opportunity to review "Slippery Willie's Stupid Ugly Shoes" I was pretty excited. This book is written by Larry Petereson and this is his debut children's book.

Slippery Willie Synopsis:
Willie Wiggles hates his slippery feet. He just slips, slides and spins all over the place. But what he hates even more are the special shoes that have been made for him that will help him to walk just like all the other kids. Willie thinks that they are the "stupidest, ugliest shoes in the whole world."

Larry Peterson Bio:
Larry Peterson was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. As a freelancer, he has written many newspaper columns for local publications. Slippery Willie's Stupid, Ugly Shoes is his first children’s book. Peterson has lived in Pinellas Park, Florida for the past 28 years.

I read this book to one of the three year old pre-school classes at my child care center. They laughed their heads off when they were hearing about how Willie slipped and slided all over the place. One of the kid's said that they wanted slippery feet so that they didn't have to clean their room. They could slide away from Mom when she asked them to go to their room and clean. I thought that was pretty clever!!
Once Willie starts wearing the shoes, unfortunately everyone starts laughing at him and said they were the "stupidest, ugliest, shoes they had every seen!" This made Willie really sad and he did not want to wear them ANYMORE!! I don't want to give the ending away so you will have to get the book to find out what happens with Willie.

When we were done with the book we talked as a class about how we need to except everyone's differences. We talked about how everyone is different, some have brown hair, some have blonde, some have red. Some have blue eyes, some have green. Some wear glasses and some have braces, but we are all special and unique. Then the kids made a list for the class of how different we all are and they drew a picture of themselves and how they are different. This book teaches that differences are okay and that its okay to except them.

I really like this book because of the GREAT moral that it gives to the kids. If you want to learn more about the book you can check out more information

Prefense Non-Alcohol Hand Santizer Review and GIVEAWAY!!

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

I probably wash my hands about 20 times a day, if not more often. Working in a child care center I am either wiping noses, changing diapers, dishing out food, etc, etc, etc!!!! So I am costantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer all day long! I was really excited when I got the chance to review Prefense Non-Alchol Hand Sanitizer.

This hand sanitizer is a foaming hand sanitizer and does not have that "dry out your hands" feel to it. Also I can put it on once and not worry about how often I wash my hands or get them dirty I am covered for a whole 24 hours, yes thats right, it lasts 24 hours with only one pump!!

I really like this hand sanitizer for a few reason:
1. Alcohol free, that means that I can have the kids use it and its safe for them to put their fingers in their mouth
2. It foams, which is also fun for kids, its make them want to use it
3. It last for 24 hours so I am not putting it on ALL DAY LONG!!! Over and Over and Over again!!

Prefense Non-Alcohol Hand Sanitizer is FANTASTIC!! I would reccommend this to ANYONE!!!

You can purchase Prefense Non-Alcohol Hand Sanitizer from their website http://www.prefense.com
You can also purchase it from Amazon

Right now they have a special where you can get the 1.5oz bottle and a container of their hand wipes for only $7.99! This is like buying one and getting one for a $1 since they are both $6.99 each. What a great deal!!

Or you can WIN one of their 8oz bottles here!! Their 8oz bottle has 640 applications so if you only use it once a day (because it lasts 24 hours) then it could last almost 2 years!!

Python Printable Games-Review

As most of you know, I am the Assistant Director of a Child Care Center here in Salt Lake so when I was asked to do a review on printable games and coloring pages for Fall I was really excited! We are always looking for new and exciting things to have the kids color and take home or just activities to do. I have to say that I was a little disappointed when I actually downloaded the PDF and saw what the 57 pages entailed. Now remember the title for this is "Fall printables, games, coloring pages, and invitations." I was looking forward to some really fun things for my children to play with. Unfortuantely I was pretty dissappointed!!
This is definately NOT geared towards kids AT ALL. Of the 57 pages that were in the PDF only about 15 were kid friendly coloring pages and I would only be able to use about 10 for my classes. All of the games that were included were geared towards adults. Some of the questions I didn't even know the answers to.
You can only access this ebook by being a subscriber of the Python Printable Games newsletter. If you want to see for yourself on these printables you can go to python-printable-games,join their newsletter and get the pages.
If I was planning a party with ADULTS ONLY then I would probably use some of the printables available on this but unforutantely for my child care center I would not use it again. I was very dissappointed.

"A Different Kind of Hero", ebook review

I had the WONDERFUL opportunity to review a new book tiltled "A Different Kind of Hero", written by Leah Beth Evans

This story is about a monkey named Tomagochi who lives in teh rainforest with his friends Peshe the tiger and Mocho the Tucan. Tomagochi was a little sad because he did not feel special at all, he did not feel like he had any special talents or abilities like his friends did. Until one day some mean men came into the rainforest to cut it down and Tomagochi "swings in" and saves the day!!

Here is the bio of the Author
Leah Beth Evans was inspired to write her story as a 4th grade student after studying about the rainforest. She continues to enjoy writing stories and poetry. However, her story A Different Kind of Hero has always been one of her favorites.

Colleen, a lifelong resident Throop, PA, earned a BFA in illustration from Marywood University in 2002. Since that time, she has worked part-time as a freelance illustrator specializing in animal-themed work. She enjoys creating her art using mostly watercolor and pastel. As a dedicated animal rights activist and full-time program coordinator for International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR), Colleen lives her dream of joining her passions for animals and art to promote a more harmonious world with a touch of beauty. Recent works produced by Colleen include t-shirt and invitation designs, children’s book illustrations, and book covers. Colleen has also teamed up with her very talented artist mother, Kathy Holmes Gedrich, and paints murals for children’s nurseries.

I read this book toa group of my kids here at the Child Care Center where I work and they LOVED it. They want their teacher to read it to them everyday. They also wanted to have a little fundraiser to raise money to plant trees on our playground!!! I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to teach children to respect appreciate the environment, or to anyone who thinks they are too small wo make a difference. To find out how Tomagochi saves the day you can purchase "A Different Kind of Hero" for yourself!

"A Different Kind of Hero" can be purchased for $14.95
Amazon
Kindle
Ipad
Nook
